Hotel Check In
When you arrive at the El Capitan you may park directly in front of the hotel or just east of the hotel in the hotel parking lot. Enter through our lush courtyard of olive and palm trees surrounding the flowing fountain. In the lobby you will appreciate the 1930’s charm from the Italian tile floors and wainscoting to the Spanish style vigas and wrought iron banisters leading to the mezzanine and second floors. The music of Glen Miller will most likely be heard in the air setting the mood for your stay as you enter the hotel. A totally new elevator has been added for our guest's convenience. Just off the lobby is our welcoming parlor with a fireplace that leads to the hotel dining room and bar.

Hotel Restaurant & Bar
The El Capitan Dining Room is opens at 6 pm daily. The Gopher Hole Bar opens at 5 pm daily. Our specialties by Chef Jay Whitley change nightly and vary from roasted lamb chops to a wonderful beef tenderloin to grilled salmon served on a plank. We also have a delicious ala carte menu with steaks, chicken, pork and vegetarian dishes salads and appetizers. Dinner is also served outside in our courtyard patio.
The “Gopher Hole Bar,” originally located down a winding staircase in the basement, is now located in the dining room. We serve wines from all over the world as well as imported and domestic beers. All beverage service also available outside in our courtyard. In May 2011 the bar will be expanded with full alcohol service with the addition of alcohol by the drink.

Hotel Conference Room
It is located conveniently across the courtyard patio from the dining room and bar and just off of the lobby.The Hotel El Capitan conference room may be reserve for a small or large group up to 45 people. Upon special request we will provide food and beverage service to this room catered by our dining room and bar. Guests are welcome to use the conference room anytime during their visit as a working room as long is has not been previously reserved for another guest. Thee is easy access to the parking lot, courtyard, and elevator.

Historic Hotel in Downtown Van Horn

The entire hotel just went through a $2,500,000 renovation. Located just 2 blocks off I-10, The Hotel El Capitan is the new destination in Van Horn! The hotel has 52 rooms and suites. Rooms vary from the more quiet smaller historic rooms that face the exterior of the building to the larger rooms with French doors that open out to the Courtyard. Our rooms have queen and king beds with pillow top mattresses and luxurious linens. The four most popular rooms have private patios overlooking the fountain and courtyard.
